Types of volunteering in Medellín – Primed Community

Our community has been facilitating impactful volunteer experiences in Medellín since 2016. It’s been an interesting process developing alongside our community and connecting with amazing allies from the city and around Colombia.

Primed started with some spirited young backpackers cycling their way to Comuna 13 to share English classes, at that time known as Stairway to English. Now, we help facilitate connections with communities and impactful volunteer experiences that help empower social projects and people in situations of vulnerability.

Here we go through a few ways you can connect and have an impact through volunteering with our community.

Children support volunteers

At Primed, our dandelion volunteering experience is designed to connect you with community and utilise your skills and knowhow to bring people in situations of vulnerability towards opportunities.

We have our community projects, some with international recognition, and our allies projects where we support with logistics, content, volunteers and project management.

Our community can accommodate most volunteers, from people looking for a short immersion experience to the more adventurous looking to extend their social impact.

Support a learning journey

Our community was born in Comuna 13 and we learnt from the very beginning that one of the best way many visiting tourists could help out was with English. What we also learnt was that there are good English programs and others that are improvised last minute by the visitors. Our courses benefit from guided English learning activities and skills workshops by our team and expert volunteers.

Since 2016 we have created community courses to learn languages through contexts and experiences where we creare a learning environment that also includes skills workshops and personal development. As a volunteer, you can be a part of this process either as a lead teacher, a support teacher or as many people love, a learning guide that supports the teacher and community learning process.

Help out in projects

We have various community projects and we also support impactful allies with projects that align with our vision and the sustainable development goals.

Our aim with the volunteering guided by the dandelion principle is to facilitate positive social impact in communities with empowered volunteer networks. Many volunteer experiences can end up being superficial and an underutilisitation of time and resources. Thanks to our fusion with Dandlion corporacion we were able to strengthen our volunteer onboarding experience.

Through our community connection process we identify project potential, community need, volunteer skills and abilities to design the most aligned volunteer experience we can based off our volunteers availability and skills.

Maximise your social impact

For the adventerous, skilled, committed and passionate we offer our impact volunteer immersion where you are able to be an integral part or lead a project with our community or one of strategic allies.

Aside from our community connection process we are actively co-creating with you and our allies to try and maximise your impact during the time you are supporting our community.

Sit down with our project leaders and community allies to design or support a project using your impactful skillset and passion to create an impact.
